In the latest issue of the BirdLife International magazine (Jul-Sep 2021) you can read about the adventurous explorations of the extraordinarily rich subterranean life of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ongoing research efforts in the area include our SubBIOCODE project as well as work on rare freshwater cave-dwelling fish Delminichths ghetaldii, snails from the family Hydrobiidae and the olm Proteus anguinus. Even though we are just discovering the richness in this subterranean biodiversity hotspot, species are facing threats as they depend on water levels that are changing due to river modifications.
