To celebrate Planet Earth Day and the diversity of its life forms, we are proudly announcing the name selected for the newly discovered cave shrimp, living in the Southeastern Dinarides.
By submitting your votes, You, the voters, decided that the new cave shrimp’s scientific name should bear the epithet “electa”!
The name means “candidate, one chosen”. It reminds us that the species name was chosen by a voting procedure (“elections”), which included both; experts as well as the general public.
We are thankful to everyone that participated by voting for his favorite suggestion and will inform you when the new species will be formally described.
